More Hummingbird Jewelry

If you were so unfortunate to read my twittering last week, I repeatedly mentioned working on my mother's birthday present. I decided to repeat the hummingbird theme I did for my mother in law but in green my mom's favorite color. However I tried the polymer clay wings again, I wasn't quite happy with the beaded ones. My first batch made it through sanding but didn't make through buffing, so I tried again with a thicker layer of clay and then a backing of clay.

She really seemed to like it. I told her she was market research and had to tell me what is wrong with it.

While I think my finish work was improved from my last piece, as I edited the photos I noticed a few partial fingerprints I missed. I am working on some photo transfer pendants for mother's day and am coating my fingers in cornstarch first to try and prevent fingerprints.

So do any of you want to be market research for me? I am going to give away one hummingbird pendant this week. Winner gets to choose between the purple beaded wing model or the green polymer clay winged model. To enter the contest simply leave me a comment, and I will pick a winner randomly. Feel free to link the contest for your blog buddies if you like. The giveaway will end on Tuesday May 14th at midnight and I'll announce the winner on Wednesday May 15th.

OOooh. That is so cool--I have bead-making on my list of crafts to try, but right now I'm in fabric world. There's just so much fun stuff out there.

I really love those purple ones. Please enter me in your give-away.

Wow! That is fabulous. I love the colors. Green is my fave color, too.

I'd love to be entered in the contest.

BTW, thanks for visiting my blog today. :) So nice to meet you. And thanks for the good advice.

I see a big improvement over the last piece, way to go! The polymer wings look lovely and the colors flow beautifully.

Make sure to check out my blog post for baking times called "When baking beads, it's OK to sometimes break the rules". (If you click on my name it will take you there.)

This technique helps make the clay much stronger and will help with the more delicate parts, like the wings.

Market research won't tell me what I already know - this is fabulous work here. You cook, know your chiles, AND make jewelry? Somehow that's not fair.

I never knew cornstarch could be used for such things.

Huzzah for your talent! And for whoever wins the jewelry!

Amazing stuff!! It's beautiful!! I feel horrible because I have you on my everyday reads list to the blog but somehow I missed on Google Reader. All this time I thought you were just taking a break from blogging. Duh me!! I'm sooo sorry!!! I'll try and catch up tonight.

But that necklace I have never seen ANYTHING like it. So unique. Belongs in a jewelry gallery. You should feel very proud of your work because it's so wonderful.

Oh,and yeah, please do enter me in the contest because I will do nothing but oh and awh over it if I win and show it off everywhere I go and online of course ;)

Pick Me ...Pick Me!

They turned out beautiful. I wish my gram was still alive. She loved hummingbirds and I would quickly snap up a set for her.
